... And beneath they creep the streets. Subterranean faction knowns only meat. It's a lovely ride down the sewer slide, to the beating heart of the endless night and ... Only roses grow down here. From our radioactive K-hole in action, we don't eat, scour the city streets. & we don't ask no quarter, none given. Morals of God are far beyond driven! Only roses grow down here Who is who inside the human zoo, and do you care? Beg for scraps through manhole traps suited to bulls & bears We're sons & daughters of wealth & importance, of doormen & porters, indeed. Nothing's as important as the warmth of ignorance. Come, you'll see. No time for crackpot, hack job nobodies! How tall's your family tree? No time for handshakes, 'how are ya?', 'goodbye', no one's as important as me! Only roses grow down here.

Can't help but thinking that you've been sleeping through life, and you're alone in the night. & I've been watching ... That cup you're drinking is overflowing with spite and you can't seem to hold the knife that you've been twisting. Don't confuse your better halves with love in the dark? You don't say. Don't confuse your better halves with snakes in the grass, okay? 'Cause when you find there's no one left who'll wallow in your bullshit you'll rue the day you left them all behind. So on & on it goes, turn the page and roll the stone. You're a lie. And still alone in the night. And I've been watching ... That cup your gripping is overflowing with spite. And it's sharpened all your favourite knifes You'll need for twisting. Don't confuse your better halves with deluded hearts. They won't stay. Don't confuse your better halves with drugs in the dark, okay? Don't confuse your better halves with love in the dark, okay? Don't confuse your better halves with snakes in the grass, okay? 'Cause when the rest have left to roam and you're the one been left at home, you'll rue the day you left yourself behind.

I'm intimate with all your problems, but I don't want to tell you mine. It's safer to assume they're trivial, & I don't want to waste your time. I suppose we're all just terrified of life taking far too long, of plodding through the pain of boredom, & falling out of love through song. And what becomes of staying in-grown? And what becomes of letting go? The drone of a broken record. A fear of how to grow. And I know ... This is uncharted territory for you & me, just you keep your head above the deep blue sea. This is uncharted territory for you & me. We've just got to keep our heads above the deep. Do you remember when your unblemished heart would sing? And time was just an ocean growing wider? Your virtue sailed an endless sky as you'd lavish in the spring. Your eyes were just a sunrise getting brighter ... Hall in white. I sweep the lonely faces for a while and learn that all their dreams are memories.

about

Recorded in June 2018 at Head Gap studios in Melbourne, the debut EP by Melbourne band SCARES is the newest musical collaboration between primary members Declan Kelly and Patrick Weber. The three tracks are a further progression of the heavy, groove orientated and darkly-psychedelic sound of their previous group In Void. Strange, sweeping and savagely unhinged sounds for those who dare to gaze in to the SCARES.
